A message to all members of McBride for U.S. Senate '08
McBride U.S. Senate ?08 http:www.MarkMcBride.US Dear Friends: I am writing to update you on what has been happening with the campaign and to give you some information about what will be happening this week. At this point, we have over 500 signatures in hand from seven different counties. I have been told that there are many more out there, but I cannot give you a firm number on these because I have not received them yet. I need 10,000 by July 15 so I am over 5% of the way there. I will report to you regularly on the status of the petition. Also, Margaret Thompson, who is currently serving on the Clemson City Council, has agreed to serve as the Coordinator for Local Government Contacts. She will be helping me to communicate with elected officials from across the state to make sure that we are doing all that we can to make the U.S. Senate work in a way that is responsive to the level of government that is closest to where people live, work, and raise their families. Last Thursday, I was in Florence all day for eight different meetings with business owners who are looking to make sure that we have a conservative option for the United States Senate in November. I began these meetings at 7:30 a.m. and ended them at 9:00 p.m. The response that I received was very encouraging. This Saturday, I will be in Beaufort County to gather signatures for the petition. They are holding a local referendum there and I will be going to several of the larger precincts to meet voters and ask them to sign to ensure that I can be on the general election ballot so that they can have a conservative choice in November. I want you to remember that while serving two terms as the Republican Mayor of Myrtle Beach, I: - Was the first elected official in South Carolina to pass an ordinance dealing with illegal immigration (May 2004). - Fought and defeated a new change in tax millage reassessment. This would still be costing every taxpayer all across South Carolina if it had not been stopped. - Voted 16 times against a proposed city owned hotel because I felt that it would cost the taxpayers? money. It was developed by the city government over my objections. Taxpayers were promised that no tax funds would be needed to accomplish this. To date, Myrtle Beach taxpayers have had to pay over $5 million dollars for this project. If there had been sufficient demand for this project, the private sector would have done this. Government is not a business and should not be trying to compete with business. I am running for the United States Senate because I want to: - Make sure that the United States of America has real, secure borders - Work for a tax system that is simpler, flatter, and fairer - Make sure that we do all that we have to do in order to have sources of energy that are secure and affordable In order to accomplish these things, I need your help in any or all of the following ways: - Download and sign the petition, get family and friends to do likewise, and return it to the campaign. South Carolina law requires that this be on legal size paper. Click on this link to download it now: http://www.markmcbrid... - Contribute $25 or more. Click on this link now to contribute: https://www.fundraisi... - Forward this to family and friends who share your values, especially if they live in or near Beaufort, Hilton Head, Sun City, Bluffton, Edisto Island, Walterboro, or Hardeeville - Meet me in Beaufort County on Saturday at any of the following places if you can. Call the campaign office (843-333-2006) if you can meet me there.
