Judge Joan Orie Melvin Pennsylvania Supreme Court Candidate

Judge Joan Orie Melvin is the endorsed Republican for the PA Supreme Court. Orie Melvin has been a judge for over 23 years, serving at all levels of the judiciary. She was the first female, and the first Republican in the history of heavily Democratic Pittsburgh to serve as the Chief Magistrate judge of the Municipal Courts. She was very innovative in creating the first Domestic Violence Court in Pennsylvania, which serves as a national and international model. She also implemented community service programs for juvenile offenders convicted of non-violent crimes to instill credibility in our youth. Judge Orie Melvin was the first female Republican elected to the Allegheny County Common Pleas bench. She served in the Criminal, Civil, and Family divisions, presiding over the gamut of trials from death penalty cases and major felonies, to complex civil litigation. She led the statewide ticket to be the first female Republican elected to the Superior Court, and also led the statewide retention ticket. She has served on the Superior Court for over 11 years, where she has participated in over 8000 decisions. Judge Orie Melvin is the only candidate with an actual proven track record as a conservative judge. Judge Orie Melvin is a strict constructionist who believes the job of judging is interpreting the law, not creating it, and never legislating from the bench.
